What are your tutoring options?

We offer individual and group tutoring, face-to-face at our Botany location. Individual online tutoring is also available.

Individual tutoring

These are one-to-one sessions (face-to-face or online) that can either focus on the child’s lesson plans or focus on an area of learning that your child might need some extra assistance with.

Small group tutoring

These may have up to 4 children and require a minimum number of children to proceed. Children would be grouped based on similar stages and ability for that area of learning. The tutor would reinforce learning from the syllabus and focus on any challenging topics.

Homework Club

These sessions may have up to 8 children and require a minimum number of children to proceed.

Our Homework Club sessions give children support with their homework tasks set by their teacher, while being assisted by our tutor to help them get through any tricky questions and learn new strategies along the way.

What type of tutoring will suit my child?

You know your child better than anyone and what works for them.

Individual tutoring: if your child is not quite keeping up with the curriculum, has trouble concentrating in groups or needs a bit more time to understand concepts, one-on-one time might suit them more with techniques tailored to their learning needs

Small group tutoring: some children work better in small groups as it gives them someone to bounce ideas off, compare notes and maybe make sessions a bit more social while still being focused on the learning. Why not ask your child’s classmates if they would be keen to form a group?

Homework Club: your child is on track with the curriculum but after a long day at school and a long day at work, it’s not always something either of you look forward to doing. Our Homework Club is suitable for children that just need dedicated time for tasks, in an engaging learning environment, with someone available to answer questions, help them stay on track and lead them in the right direction. This frees up time for the whole family at home.

What subjects do you tutor in?

We focus on reading, writing, english/grammar and mathematics but if there is a subject your child finds challenging, please speak to us to see how we can help.

What qualifications do your tutors have?

Our tutors include high ATAR-scoring students, university students, individuals currently undertaking a Bachelor of Education or other degree, and/or have already completed their degree and learning support officers.

All our tutors have a valid Working With Children Check.

Are you a member of the Australian Tutoring Association (ATA)?

Yes, we are. The ATA aims to represent tutors and tutoring organisations, act as a lobby group and raise the standard of tutoring in Australia. Membership requires strict adherence to the ATA Code of Conduct.

What can we expect from the session?

The first session (whether it be individual or group) gives the tutor and your child an opportunity to get to know each other and the tutor to gauge what level your child might be at. It’s really important that your child can be comfortable with their tutor and is an important part of the process. Together they will come up with goals as part of their Individual Student Plan. Once goals are in place each session is designed to get your child closer to achieving their goals. At the end of each session, the tutor will share a brief summary to update you on their progress.

Consultation with your child’s teacher or therapist can also be arranged on request.

How long is a tutoring session?

Each session is 50-55 minutes depending on the age of the child and attention span. Our tutors will include ‘brain breaks’ to help your child press the reset button when needed.

How do I know how my child is progressing?

Our tutors will use a live Google document to share with you the learning plan and progress notes after each session. It’s also a place where you can leave feedback for the tutor. If there are any specific concerns or discussions that need to be had, we can arrange that with the tutor.

What time should I arrive?

Do I have to stay with my child?

That depends. If your child is independent, you can leave them with us and go have a coffee or run errands. Please make sure you are back by the time the workshop finishes.

Otherwise, you are welcome to stay!

Does my child have to be creative?

Not at all. Our workshops are for absolute beginners to little Picasso’s. Each child will achieve an outcome relative to their skill level and more importantly, enjoy doing it

Are the workshops different all the time?

We try to mix up themes and mediums every so often, giving the children variety. When you go to book a session, you’ll be able to get a rough idea of what that week will be, before you book.

Do you do birthday parties?

Yes, we certainly do. You can either join our regular workshop and do a group booking or if you’d prefer not to be with other people and children, you might want to choose a private event instead.

Do you take Creative Kids vouchers?

Yes we do. You can book your child into 3 of our workshops with one voucher. Simply email hello@thebrightspace.com.au your child’s full name, date of birth and the voucher number.

How long does the workshop go for?

The workshop runs between 6.30-8.30pm. Feel free to head to one of our local pubs or restaurants afterwards.

What does an average workshop look like?

After introductions and house keeping our artist will guide you through the process of creating your own piece of art to take home. We’ll have breaks and maybe some games to keep the participants on their toes…..and music, we love music. Who said learning couldn’t be fun?

Do you provide food & drink?

Our workshops and parties are all BYO.

Bring your own food and snacks, beer and wine, but we’ll supply glassware if needed, and water of course. If you have forgotten anything, you can head down to the local shops.

I don’t have a creative bone in my body. Is this workshop for me?

Our workshops are for anyone who is a beginner or someone who thinks they are Van Gough. No experience necessary. You might actually surprise yourself.

What is your cancellation policy?

At least 24 hours written notice is required to cancel, in which a credit will be issued for use within 12 months. Email hello@thebrightspace.com.au.

If cancelled within 24 hours, no credit or refund will be issued.

How long does the workshop go for?

The workshop runs between 9.30 – 11.00 am. We find this just the right amount of time to learn and create while keeping the children’s attention.

Our school holiday workshops finish at 12pm

How old does my child have to be?

Our workshops are designed for children 5 and over. Some mediums might be more complex than others so the artist will guide and assist the children. Sometimes it’s the journey rather than the destination.

Please speak to us if your child is younger than 5.

Do I have to book the whole term?

No – but there are discounts if you do!

Children have many activities, between sports and parties, it can be hard to commit to every week. We understand that which is why all our weekend workshops are stand alone sessions and can be booked individually, right up to the morning of.

What does an average workshop look like?

After introductions and house keeping our artist will guide the children through the process of creating their own piece of art to take home. We all know it can sometimes be difficult to sit down for a long period of time so we also have breaks and games to keep the children moving and help refocus.

We provide small prepackaged snacks and water. Feel free to bring nut-free food for your child if they would like something more substantial.

Will I get the same tutor for my sessions?

We aim to book the same tutor for each session. If you or the tutor’s availability changes we’ll match your child to another suitable tutor who will be updated on your child’s progress.

Also, in the rare occurrence your child doesn’t ‘gel’ with the tutor, we’ll do our best to match them with someone else.

How will online sessions work?

All you need is a laptop or computer with an internet connection, audio and camera.

We will send you/your child a Google Meet link via a calendar invitation for the session. They might need your help to get this started or organise their tabs, especially the younger students. Our tutors will incorporate online tools such as digital whiteboards and interactive programs to run the session.

What time are the sessions?

At this stage, lessons begin from 3.30pm onwards Monday to Thursday but please speak to us about what days and times work for you and we can coordinate with our tutors a suitable session.
