Urban Art defines the movement of Street Art out of the street and into galleries, public spaces and private displays. This term, we’ll be looking at Urban Art elements connected to graphics and imagery, as well as text-based art inspired through graffiti lettering.
Inspired by famous street artists like Banksy, Keith Haring and Lady Pink, this 8-week term will teach your child techniques like mural art, 3D word art, drawing icons, stencilled posters.
- Duration: 1.5 hours per workshop x 8 weeks
- 9:30am – 11am, suitable for ages 5 and up
- Inclusions: professional instruction, all equipment and materials, light snack
- Instructors: Mon Bedwell, Carlos Agamez and Gill Cameron
- Other information: Doors open 9.20am. If you are bringing a snack, please make sure it is nut-free.
WORKSHOP DATES TERM 4:
Sat 21st Oct: Wall mural ‘Graffiti creature’
Inspired by mural artist Gill Cameron, we will take our “line for a walk” on mural paper, creating interesting lines without lifting the brush. The shapes created amongst these lines will be made to stand out with pops of colour
Sat 28th Oct: Wall mural ‘Identity mural’
Explore mural painting techniques on large scale using acrylics. Be inspired by the artwork of Lady Pink through bold colours, black outlines and abstract icons which represent our identity in everyday life
Sat 4th Nov: Word Art ‘3D Graffiti tags’
Be introduced to old school graffiti text to create your own tag style. We will explore fonts and text style to create a 3D word art
Sat 11th Nov: Word Art ‘Name poster’
Explore old school graffiti styles to create a personal name poster
Sat 18th Nov: Stencil art ‘Banksy mural’ monochrome
Create a large scale monochrome mural inspired by phantom artist Banksy. Through stencilling and large format painting, we will explore ways to leave our mark on the urban landscape
Sat 25th Nov: Stencil Art: Banksy ‘statement’ poster ‘
Transform a blank canvas into a graffiti masterpiece inspired by Banksy. Make a statement by mixing stencilling, text and graphic techniques.
Sat 2nd Dec: Paste-ups street posters
Fly-posting is a popular street art style. Create a mixed media poster by combining paper strips, newspaper highlights, custom icons and stencilling for a dynamic visual effect
Sat 9th Dec: Icons and doodles
Urban elements inspired by Keith Haring we will work on blending elements of graffiti icons, illustrations and cartooning. We will create an artwork featuring bold lines, bright colours, shapes, and imagery from popular culture
